Is FreeCompressor really free?
Yes — completely free, with no account, no watermarks and no daily limits. Compress as many files as you want.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. The image compressor runs entirely in your browser using canvas and WebAssembly-free encoders. Your files never leave your device — you can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it keeps working.
Which formats are supported?
You can drop PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, AVIF and HEIC (iPhone) images — HEIC is decoded in any browser — and export compressed PNG, JPG, WebP or AVIF. You can also resize or crop while you compress.
Do you remove EXIF and location data?
Yes. Re-encoding through the browser's canvas strips all EXIF and GPS metadata, so the image you download carries no camera or location information. Orientation is baked in first, so photos never come out sideways.
Can I resize or crop images too?
Yes. Pick a longest-edge preset (e.g. 1080px) or enter exact dimensions with an aspect-ratio lock. “Fit” scales without distortion; “Fill” center-crops to exact dimensions — handy for square avatars or passport sizes.
How much smaller will my images get?
Photos typically shrink 60–90% as JPG or WebP at quality 75–90. Screenshots and graphics typically shrink 30–70% with PNG palette quantization. The live before/after preview shows exactly what you get.
Is there a file size or usage limit?
No hard limits — the only constraint is your device's memory for very large images. There are no daily caps and no premium tier.
